You are on the web site of the Edinburgh & SE Scotland Branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA). This web site was re-launched in October 2009 to reflect the wide ranging and changing needs of the real ale drinker in our branch area. We hope it will also be of service to the many visitors that we receive in Edinburgh & South East Scotland. CAMRA is a UK wide consumer organisation with 100,000 members. It has branches run by volunteers throughout the UK. This branch has been concerned with the promotion of good-quality cask conditioned beers (commonly referred to as “real ale”) since being founded in 1975.
The Branch
Our branch covers a large geographical area, stretching from the City of Edinburgh in the north, and through much of the Lothians and the Scottish Borders. Edinburgh itself has had a long and proud tradition of producing real beer – a tradition almost lost at one time in the recent past, but now revived. In the Borders there are inns, taverns and hotels of unique style, steeped in the turbulent and lively history of the region.

Visitors to Edinburgh, the Lothians & the Scottish Borders
Firstly - Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, one of Europe's foremost tourist destinations, is of course within our branch area. Whether you are interested in the unique appearance of the taverns and other drinking establishments in the heart of the city, or simply want to sample traditional real ale, brewed here in Scotland or elsewhere in the UK, follow this link Walking with a purpose, and then down the page to Suggested Walks. To find out which pubs and other outlets are near where you are staying, or near an area you wish to explore, select the Pub Finder sidebar.
You may however be wishing to explore the areas around Edinburgh in the Lothians, either along the coastline of the Firth of Forth, or further inland. Perhaps you would like to go further afield to take in the unique atmosphere of the Borders. In either case there is a section of the Pub Finder for you. Again - just click on the Pub Finder sidebar.
