City take the NL plunge two years early

16/05/08 > Team News

Fresh from winning the Cambridgeshire Division One league title, Cambridge City Korfball Club has its sights set high for next season, and is stepping up to enter the England Korfball Association (EKA) National League in its own right.

City previously competed in the EKA National League as a composite team with players from local clubs Phoenix, Lions, and Cambridge University.

But with the Cambridge korfball crown under its belt, and on the back of other successes such as receiving a £10,000 Awards for All grant and Clubmark status, City is ready to take the plunge.

Chair Tracey Cooper said: "The move to go it alone in the National League is part of our five year development plan and, though we are only two years into the plan, we feel we have the squad to perform well in this competition ahead of our five year target."

Club coach Janine Collier said: "Stealing the title of the Cambridgeshire Division One League from Cambridge Tigers (who finished third in Division One of the National League) has proven that we can compete at the highest level. We have both the strength and the depth to aim high."

This season, the City composite team was fifth placed in the National League.
