City 5 7 - 13 Vikings 4

Date: 01/11/2009

Venue: St Bedes

First defence: Ian, Stephen, Alyson, Bayley

City 5 played their part in an exciting high scoring third division match at St Bedes. Our more experienced opponents had a good mix of youth and players with a few years experience so it was no real surprise when they got off to a quick start establishing a 3-0 lead in little time.

Caroline managed to reduced the arrears by scoring City's first goal and the team pegged their
opponents at 3-1 for the next 5 minutes of play. This wasn't to last, however. Vikings with some excellent long shooting - at one stage I didn't think they were ever going to miss! - pulled away to establish a healthy looking 9-2 lead at the break.

City regrouped at half time and came out fighting in the second half with lots of determination and desire!  City soon had Vikings on the back foot with a couple of quick goals. Vikings' shooting began to falter as City continued to peg back their opponents.

At one stage early in the half City had reduced their arrears to 10-5 but alas this was as close as they got.

Vikings eventually prevailing 13-7.  A good battling second half from City winning the half 5-4.

Bayley Wooldridge made her debut and played very well against an experienced opponent. There was also lots of excellent collecting work from the team who put into practice what we had recently been learning in training. Big thanks as well to Lois for turning out at short notice.
