Cambridge City Korfball 2008

Result

Lions 3 5 - 5 City 5

Date: 27/11/2009

Venue: Littleport Leisure Centre

Report:

First attack: Alyson, Bayley, Ian, John R
First defence:
George, John E, Sabine, Caroline
Subs:
Fiona (for Alyson)

Despite the late start in Littleport on a Friday night City seemed ready and
up for this challenge.  A fairly strong line up took to the pitch and started
positively, producing many good long attacks but not the baskets or korfs
that we deserved.  Lions ultimately found their range first and opened up a
two goal lead.  City continued to attack well, recycling the ball from good
collects, most attacks resulting in at least 3 or 4 chances to score - John R
was particularly unlucky on numerous occasions.  The goal finally came as
half time was approaching, a lovely long shot from Ian which ultimately gave
City the impetus to renew the battle in the second half.

City started the second half working really hard but Lions added to their
lead making the score 3-1.  City though were determined and substitute Fiona
pulled one back before George scored an equalising running in shot.  City
though from over celebrating the equaliser did not get back and mark up
quickly enough at the change of ends and disappointingly gave Lions the edge
once more.  However, City lost their concentration for 5 minutes - John R
nearly putting through his own korf and George missing a penalty - so it was
clearly time for a time out.  City refocused on the restart - Alyson soon
bought the scores level again at 4-4.  As the game entered the last 5 minutes
Lions thought they had won it but George produced a second running in effort
almost immediately to tie the game at 5-5.

A really pleasing effort from everyone - we kept going and on balance of play
edged this encounter although the score does not reflect this.  Something to
build on in the games in the New Year.
