Simon, Carrianne and Jude all made their club playing debuts being joined by some familiar City 5 faces, and the return to action of the 'wise man of korfball' - Rick.

To help confuse matters with the new players, Vikings kindly managed to bring just 7 players. Carrianne / Bayley both doing a half of non shooting each. City found the early going tough and soon found themselves 1-4 in arrears.

The attack against the three Viking defenders was struggling to grasp the concept of quick sharp veers to find space to long shoot with us basically holding a free collect position. Having said that, Steve did demonstrate, with the early City goal scored, a veer and shoot x 3 - the third consecutive shot finally finding the korf.  Ian reduced the arrears further with a goal on half-time reducing the deficit to 2-4.

A few words at half-time and City responded magnificently in the second half. Caroline almost immediately sunk a running in shop to make it 3-4. Vikings then got another goal before City responded with 3 consecutive korfs to not only tie the game but take the lead at 6-5 - Ian completing his hat-trick with the fourth and fifth City goals and Rick putting us ahead. 

However, this was a day when Vikings were not to be denied and as City tired, Vikings re-established their grip on the game and went on to complete a 8-6 victory. City made a late substitution with 5 mins to go bringing on Cam for Steve but it was too late to save the game.

Taking everything into account, not being used to playing in an attack against three defeners, and the fact that we had three debutants, I could not be more pleased by how well everyone played, the determination and effort shown was first class and will stand City 5 in good stead for their upcoming
fixtures.
