City faced a major challenge last Thursday when they met the Phoenix development team which included several experienced 1st and 2nd teamers.

City were asked to concentrate on their defending work as that is what we had been working on in training on Tuesday. The training clearly paid off as it took Phoenix nearly 18 minutes to open the scoring and even then they only added one more before half-time. Despite defending well, City were
struggling to generate any real opportunities in attack.

City came out fighting in the second half and were soon back in the game after being awarded a penalty. However any comeback was short lived. Phoenix sorted out their attacking play, the cracks in the City defence opened and Phoenix sped away to record an 8-1 victory.

There were still positives from the second half.  The attacking play and retention of the ball was better but our defending work less good. We now need to bring both elements together at the same time in our future matches so we have solid defence as well as generating some chances in attack.

Despite the loss the team still enjoyed the game and felt it was a good learning curve to be pitched in against stronger players.

Special mention must go to Andy Catton who played his first full match despite only have been to training on a couple of occasions.
