With Janine, Rachel, and Tracey all injured and Nick swanning off to South Africa, City faced a tough task in attempting to overcome a Kingfishers side which had scored 20 goals in dispatching Tigers the week before.
After Andy had given us an early lead with a penalty, City found goals very hard to come by - epitomised by Rob's comic miss completely unmarked under the post. Despite some decent attacking moving we went in 6-2 down at half time. With Kingfishers getting the first two goals after the break City looked dead and buried!
But some tactical tweaking from Janine resulted in some much improved attacking from the division of Simon, Rob, Mary and Lucy B, which had previously been struggling. Andy, Jack, Carla and Lucy H had been looking dangerous throughout, and as their shots finally began to drop City were suddenly storming back into the game.
Mary completed a second half hat trick with a quite astonishing move - controlling Simon's pass with the side of her face (on purpose i'm sure :-S) she unflinchingly sunk her medium range shot without it even touching the sides! A rattled Kingfishers team missed two late penalties which could have denied the valiant City side a result, but as it was a late effort from Andy could have given City a victory which had looked most unlikely just 20 minutes previous.
The game ended 12-12 and overall the depleted squad can be very pleased with such a sterling comeback.
